Debate Club for 4th and 5th Graders

Spring session is open to new AND returning debaters! Developed and run by Successful Schools in Action, this program at Blaine, Coe, Lawton, and John Hay schools helps kids improve their public speaking, writing, note taking, and critical thinking skills.
·     NEW! Taught by elementary school teachers, trained in debate
·     Meet after school once a week for 12 weeks, starting mid-February
·     Students develop both affirmative and negative arguments
·     A cross-school tournament will be held in May
Tuition is $120, and a limited number of scholarships are available. Online registration will open Feb. 1st at http://www.schoolsinaction.org. Offered by Students of The Center School
for elementary students grades 3-5

When: mid winter break feb 16-18 9:00-noon
Where: The Center School, Seattle Center

Crafting: learn basic hand sewing and knitting skills while making fun plushie monsters and their clothes!
Painting: learn basic painting and sketching skills creating still lifes and self portraits!
Cartoons:  study the style of various comic books, then learn how to draw, ink, and color your own!

WHAT: This 5-week course offers an opportunity for parents to learn creative writing skills utilizing the same curriculum that is taught in the schools. Along the way instructors will offer useful suggestions for working with your child.

WHO: Lead instructor is Catharine Blaine principal Heather Swanson. Assistant Instructor is McClure Middle School principal Sarah Pritchett

WHEN: Thursday evenings

Discuss the $1mm energy grant for McClure Middle School

What:    A community meeting to discuss the $1 million energy efficiency grant for McClure Middle School

When:   Tuesday, December 8, from 5:00- 6:00 p.m.

Where:  McClure Middle School Lunchroom

Details:

In the 2009 legislative session, Representative Reuven Carlyle secured a grant for $1 million for energy efficiency work for McClure Middle School. The meeting is intended to showcase the list of possible projects and discuss those projects that the panel (comprised of McClure parents, school staff and central office staff) is recommending to the school board.

Please come to hear about the exciting improvements the panel is recommending to make McClure a greener building.

McClure Middle School presents “Three Doors to Death” Dec 15th, 5:30pm

Experience a true “who done it” with McClure Middle School’s Three Doors to Death or…The Choice is Yours by Keith Jackson. In a true audience interactive murder mystery with dinner the audience will decide the outcome of the evening. Tickets are $10 adult and $5 student/senior and includes dinner. The performance is at 5:30 in the McClure lunchroom on December 15th.

Reservations for dinner are requested – available at mcclurereservations@gmail.com

This is not only a fundraiser for McClure, but a really fun way for families to spend an evening together.
