Auction Updates for Families

Dear Parents of John Hay,

Please let me introduce myself.  My name is Susan Sweeney and I am one of the Volunteer Coordinators at John Hay.  I am also very excited to be one of four co-chairs for our Spring Auction.  Our theme is “The West Coast Tour- Our Journey to Excellence”.  Lynn Baker, Deanna Harding and Brandi Black are my partners in crime.  There are two major changes to this year’s auction.  First, we are doing our Silent Auction portion online.  The main reason for doing this is to include more families in the auction that may choose not to attend the event itself. Having part of the auction online now allows Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, friends and neighbors to support our children.  I know that personally my mother is excited to bid on one of the portrait and photography sessions so that she can support her grandchildren, as well as get the professional pictures of them.  Bidding for Good is a company that will set up our auction to run like Ebay.  We will open the bidding at 8:00am on April 15th and close in the evening of April 26th.  You can already preview some of the fun things that have been procured by our team. Please check out our Coming Soon page at www.biddingforgood.com/johnhayauction.  All of you, I hope received a bright red sheet explaining some of the things you, as families can donate to the auction.  We now have the ability to link websites, upload logos and pictures.  We believe this gives our contributors a little more bang for their donation buck.  It is easy to do yourself at our website or we will be happy to do it for you.  Just turn in the yellow procurement form or down load the donation form2011 as soon as possible and we will add it to our website.  Please go take a peek, sign up, refer your family and friends, and window shop with your kids!!  We are hoping to raise $90,000 with this portion.

This brings me to the second big change…..The Showbox SODO will be our new location.  This venue allows up to 525 guests.  We will have a fun signature cocktail available at the door.  We will still have our Wine Grab, where for $25.00 you can get a nice, a really nice or a fabulous bottle of wine. We will have an amazing Fine Wine Silent Section, all the classroom baskets, sibling and individual portraits and The Photo Booth Guy (from Bingo, but will be geared toward grown-ups) as well as many other fun surprises.  We are sad to announce that Kaspar’s will not be able to cater our event although we are expecting a show stopping meal from Wolfgang Pucks Catering Company.  With far fewer items to bid on during the reception, you will be given a chance to catch up with other parents and loosen the purse strings in preparation for the LIVE AUCTION.  Back by popular demand Alan Barlow will be our host for evening.  Classroom art projects, teacher’s experiences, trips, and downright rockin’ surprises will be up for the highest bidder.  Dessert Dash and Fund-a-Need will round out our Journey to Excellence.

Please have a wonderful and relaxing Mid-Winter Break.  Be prepared to get this party started as soon as we return.
