State of the District Community Meeting
Tuesday, November 9, 2010
6:00pm – 7:30pm
Mercer Middle School
1600 S. Columbian Way
Seattle, WA 98108
Superintendent Maria L. Goodloe-Johnson invites families, community members and staff to ‘State of the District’ event.
On November 9, Seattle Public Schools will take an important step toward fulfilling the promise to be transparent and accountable for district and school-level data. For the first time, a detailed School Report for every school in the district will be published, along with the second annual District Scorecard.
Seattle Public Schools is beginning the third year of implementation of a five-year strategic plan, Excellence for All. The plan, which included input from more than 3,000 stakeholders, was developed to ensure that all of our students graduate ready for college and careers.
During her State of the District presentation, Dr. Goodloe-Johnson will share data on district progress and successes, and also discuss areas where persistent challenges remain. In addition, the Superintendent will provide a perspective on which elements of the strategic plan have been implemented, and what milestones lie ahead. A series of regional meetings, to discuss school reports in more detail, are also planned for late November and early December.
School Reports will provide detailed information on how each school is performing and include factors such as academic growth and student outcomes; student/family engagement; and school leadership, instruction and environment. The reports also provide an overview of what each school – with district support – is doing to increase academic performance and close the achievement gap.
The District Scorecard for 2009-2010 will include data about progress toward goals set out in Excellence for All, as well as other academic and operational measures.
The State of the District event is scheduled for 6:00pm-7:30pm on Tuesday, November 9 in the cafeteria of Mercer Middle School, 1600 S. Columbian Way. The event will begin with a meet and greet, including light refreshments, from 6-6:20 p.m., followed by Dr. Goodloe-Johnson’s State of the District address from 6:20-6:50 p.m. Immediately following, there will be an opportunity for informal interaction with district staff and other attendees.
Interpretation services will be provided. Child care will not be available.
School Reports will be available at schools and online at http://www.seattleschools.org after 10 a.m. on November 9. The District Scorecard will also be posted online. Additional information on School Reports is available at http://www.seattleschools.org.
