It has been a great start to the new school year! This year we will again be doing all of our favorite activities: bowling, skating, and a mix of team sports which emphasize skill development and modified games at all grade levels. We will continue the “5 for Life” Curriculum that focuses on the 5 components of fitness: cardio respiratory endurance, muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility and body composition. Within the curriculum there are activities dealing with muscle and bone knowledge and nutrition.
I will also be doing fitness testing in the 1st-5th grades. 3rd-5th grades will be adding the component of weight to the height measurements, which will give a more accurate measurement of the BMI (Body Mass Index) for your child and show any improvement or growth from pre-fall to post-spring test. This information will be strictly confidential. Your child’s fitness levels are compared to minimum health related standards that have been developed for children of the same age and gender. By testing at all grade levels; the primary children will learn some of the testing protocol they will be using when they get to the intermediate grades.
